A Tale of High Crimes and Higher Ratings

The 41st Century has lots of things; the key to happiness isn't one of them. Sure, we've got awesome technology, faster-than-light travel, floating robot assistants, and even more types of food on a stick than you'd know what to do with, but after a while, you figure out that all this technology is just trading out one problem for another.

Last Resort, a weekly cyberpunk, furry webcomic, is about a brand new reality show featuring a dozen criminals trying to earn their freedom (and a few volunteers after who knows what!) If it's not the deadliest of the lot, it's damn close to it.

If that's not enough excitement for you, there are volunteers in the mix, like acclaimed violinist Jigsaw Forte, tribal princess Adharia Kuvoe, or war hero Jason Spades, all vying for fame and fortune inside the program!

But First, a Question For You...

All you need to know about Last Resort

... and will make you want to know more

Last Resort is a simple, straightforward reality game show; twelve criminals (all of whom who would just end up dying in jail anyway) play for one broadcast season in a series of life-threatening challenges, and everyone who survives the season finally gets pardoned and goes home happy. Let's face it, though; games where "everyone wins" aren't exciting. In fact, they're downright dull. So to make this something with watching, someone has to lose, and on Last Resort, losing is the last thing you'll ever do.

For that matter, just watching criminals isn't all that exciting either; watching innocent people against criminals is, though, so there's four more volunteers in the mix, for a total of sixteen contestants. To make sure that at least someone is working to kill off these criminals, four of those sixteen are Executioners -- squad leaders with more authority, more weaponry, and more freedom, all for the price of being expected to live up to their name every now and then.

For our first (and possibly only) season, the show's attracted the sort of people you might expect; ex-soldiers, hardened lifers, even a couple innocents (HA!) running around, not to mention a pair of Dead Inside -- those whose souls have been altered (or corrupted, depending on who you ask) from their original inert state. These criminals' crimes are as diverse as they are: murder, espionage, assassination, and terrorism -- and that's just one of them!

There's always a wild card, though, and on Last Resort, her name is Jigsaw Forte. A professional violinist and grad school dropout, she's a Talmi -- a species of gnomish marsupials that have only been recognized as sophonts within the past 500 years -- and none of those three things are what anyone was expecting in a volunteer, let alone someone who became an executioner! The good news is that she has one advantage over the other contestants and staff; she's a vampire, and even after thousands of years of lore, everyone believes that only humans can become vampires, so they're clueless as to what Jigsaw really is. The bad news is, she doesn't have a clue either . . .

Start either at the very first Last Resort comic and get some insight into Jigsaw Forte and her first confrontations with the Vaeo family (as well as some artistic evolution), or skip to the beginning of the weekly pages (which have much nicer artwork), with "Don't Say Goodbye, Say Hello!"

The Top Five Reasons You Can't Stop Watching

(and why your eyeballs will be glued to the screen)

Believe this comic is just too dangerous for words yet? We've got a whole slew of reasons to keep you on the edge of your seat...
  • Vicious criminals are all over the place. If they look sweet and innocent, you might want to read some of the cast pages...
  • The stakes are high to make the ratings higher! With this show being broadcast all over the galaxy, everyone's banking on deaths to occur; there's just too much invested in the show for everyone to survive and live happily ever after!
  • Vendettas abound. Well, just because this is the first time most of these folk have seen each other in person doesn't mean they still don't have it in for each other...
  • Surprises are just waiting to screw everything up. Jigsaw Forte came onto the show not even realizing she was a vampire; when the truth comes out, she's not only going to make the game more dangerous for everyone else, but she'll also discover her own problems becoming a whole lot worse!
  • The galaxy is conspiring against them. Governments are pulling the strings, all sorts of adversaries are coming out of the woodwork, and on top of all this, when Jigsaw's daddy sees what she's been up to, he's going to be PISSED...

Wow, I have to admit, I didn't know a thing about Last Res0rt. I'm not very hip, though. I'm going to pass it on to my kids. Thanks!
